Homecoming Dresses - dressing up for the night of your life !

If you've never worn a formal dress before, you're about to really enjoy shopping through dozens of pretty dresses for the ultimate gown to wear.

The homecoming is a less formal event than you might think - it's OK to wear either short cocktail style dresses or long evening or ball gowns (unlike prom where long dresses are usually expected).

If you're at high school, it's worth knowing that homecoming dresses can be picked up on a budget - try eBay for cheap designer gowns, or go shopping when it's sale time to pick up some half price bargains.

If your university has a week long celebration or spirit week ,  you may want to buy some new clothes for any special events. 

Alternatively, just get creative with the contents of your current wardrobe and try mixing and matching different items. Spend a day or so putting a new look together.

A new scarf or necklace can add a new look to a favorite outfit - accessorising can be a cheap way of creating a whole new look!

Be brave with Color

There's less tradition at homecomings, so choose a dress that's colorful and fun.  White is more popular for prom, but colors such as pink or blue can look great.

Simple evening gowns can look stunning if worn with the right accessories - try darker colors such as black or brown - as they can be more slimming.  Go with fabrics which cling to your body if you are curvy to show them off, or with cuts that give the illusion of shape if you have fewer curves.

A strapless or halterneck dress can look great if suitably modest - don't forget, you'll be wanting to party the night away with a bit of dancing, so you'll need to feel comfortable that your dress will stay in place for the evening.

Don't forget to consider hair styles when considering the overall effect you want to create.

Whilst the classic style is updos for any formal occasion, the half updo is gaining in popularity being a great halfway house between formal and informal.
