Backless Dresses for Every Occasion

If you've been inspired by some of the designer dresses at the Oscars or seen your favorite celebrity wearing something stunning, there's no reason you can't recreate their look.

Whether you like the halter neck style, the classic strapless bridesmaid or wedding styles, black tie formal occasions or are looking for a plunging back less evening gown for a daring party look, there really are styles for every occasion.

For a simple summer sun look, choose a short or knee length dress, pale shades or white are perfect for the wearing on the beach!  However, for evening or more formal styles, choose full or maybe tea length dresses.

Before you go in for the plunge make sure that you have got a perfectly smoothed and toned back. To do this you can do several things:

- First, exfoliate your back using a long-handled brush, you need to reach every inch of skin if you want to look stunning.

- Secondly, you may want to invest in a back mask and massage at your local beauty spa. This is really recommended for anyone who wants to make sure their skin is really smooth and glowing on the night.

- Lastly, you may want to invest in getting a spray tan at your salon, or perhaps invest in a luscious moisturiser that makes your skin glow with health.

Finding The Right Style

Choosing a backless dress for your special occasion, perhaps you intend to wear it to your prom or perhaps a formal evening event, is a rather risqué thing to choose, so you will want to make sure the dress is perfect for your figure.

It's also a style that's designed to impress, so don't hide in pastels, but step out in strong colors of red, purple, deep or navy blue, gold, silver and , of course, classic black.  Fabrics such as satin and silk will drap around your figure beautifully, flattering your curves and looking stylishly elegant.

You'll also want to consider what support you'll be wearing under your backless dress.  Do you have a suitable bra or are you happy not to wear one?

Many of the backless styles are halter neck ones also, although you can get other styles.  These will help give an element of support and security, as well as adding a real touch of elegance.

Halter style orangey red gowns with elegant train, open back and gathered frontFor those of you with a very slim figure and a small chest it is highly recommended that you try one of these halter style, remembering that the higher the neck line is, the more flattering the dress will be on your figure. For those with a fuller figure, opt for a low cut (but shaped) style dress that really gives support.

Some of the designers that create some great backless gowns are Roberto Cavalli or Vanessa Bruno, Vera Wang or search Rick Owens Lilies collection.  You may notice that it's often the cut of the fabric and it's quality that are what lifts a dress from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Also remember that if you are wearing a backless gown it is fairly important that you show off your back completely, so make sure that your hair is up, or swept to the side.

This season, for 2009 -2010, expect to see a choice of velvet backless dresses, as velvet is the popular fabric in many designer collections.
